Acoustic Recording Unit (ARU)

Our Autonomous Recorder Units (ARUs) accurately capture underwater sound pressure levels, storing data for offline analysis. Seiche provides both the ARUs and comprehensive data analysis services.

Applications

  • Recording noise generated by human activity such as piling, UXO clearance,
construction and geophysical surveys. The data will then inform if the noise
generated was within the sound limitations.
  • Noise impact studies to enable scientists and researchers to analyse the
relationship between noise generated and behaviours of marine mammals.
  • Environmental monitoring of marine mammals by capturing acoustic data of
    vocalisations.

Each ARU come with high quality hydrophones from leading manufacturers. We carefully select and each hydrophone to match your specific sound recording needs. Our hydrophones are also calibrated by a UKAS accredited laboratory. This ensures you get the clearest, most accurate underwater audio possible.

As well as the provision of equipment and data analysis, Seiche will design and advise on the best mooring technique. Depending on the project requirements, Seiche can tailor the mooring design and create a custom solution.

Our two main mooring methods are:

  • Acoustic Release Canister (ARC)
  • Remotely Operated Vehicle ARU (ROVA)
